"Would you pass me the salt, please," he asked.
She started to reach her hand toward the shaker & then exploded with laughter.
"What's so funny?"
"Oh, your !" she said, still chuckling. "It just sounds funny. Like you should be saying, 'Pass me the brandy, Smythe.' Or something."
She had just picked up the salt shaker when he said, "Well, excuse me." This produced fresh gales of hilarity.
"Just gimme the damn salt!" he growled.

Hollywood wants to turn one of your stories into an animation/anime. How do you feel about this?

I'd want to read the manga first.

Glasgow2024 sent me an email today saying that "And most of you were there." First, I am not plural, like Brendan. And, second, none of me was there.

The snow kept falling. With her old bones, she didn't dare go out & risk falling. The cottage grew chilly. She rationed the firewood to not run out overnight, but threw another chunk in the fire. Then she looked at his picture on the mantel & felt a sudden warmth in her face. She smiled, remembering. She opened her footstool & pulled out the bundle of old letters tied up with pink he had sent so many years ago. She read her favorite with tears in her eyes. Oh, for young love!

Does severe weather play a part in your story? What kind?

The *Queen* picked up speed, but she was buffeted by the outer winds of the huge storm.
"Call attach life lines," Will said to Grip heading back to the cockpit.
"Attach life lines," Grip bellowed, running through the ship. The men pulled out their life lines and snapped them to rings set through the ship.
Revin followed Will to the cockpit and they both snapped in. (from *Storm Clouds Gather*, Part Three of *Revin's Heart*.)

To what extent does politics play a role in your work?

Relatively little, directly, tho my political perspective definitely underlies everything I write. The *Revin's Heart* stories are, on the face of it, about feudalism. Anyone looking at today's politics should be able to see that vast inequality is resulting in effective feudalism. And my stories are about confronting that. A few stories, like *The Better Angels and the Nighty-night Nurses* are unabashedly political.

"Okay," I said, settling back against the gunwale. "Show me."
The boy grinned at me, cast off the line, & pushed back from the dock. He hauled on the halyard to raise the mainsail. The little sailboat gathered way, crabbing a bit until he could put the centerboard down.
"Good! Now can you work us back?"
He brought her about, but he missed the tack. We ended up in irons, with the sail fluttering . He looked at me agonized.
I grinned.
"Here. Let me show you how to back the sail."

Have you ever written about a place that was very hot?

"It's too hot! I'm going to die."
"Aw, poor baby. But it's not raining! It hasn't rained here for years. You're just so full of complaints this morning! As long as you've brought plenty of water, you'll be fine."
"But I didn't bring any water," Rory said, beginning to feel put upon. "You didn't tell me I needed to bring any!"
"I can give you water, Sugar," Tseluna said, chuckling. "You'll feel better once you start running."

How would you react if a fan had a tattoo of one of your characters?

I expect it would feel much like the first time someone wrote fan fiction of my writing. It was something I had never dreamed of or imagined and I was very chuffed and gratified when it happened. I sent an email to my editor with a link and said, "Look! I have a *fan*!" ❤️

As the warrior approached the tower, he could hear an playing a fugue that ran up & down the scales. He opened the door and quietly climbed the stairs until he reached the top. The dark wizard sat in his throne while the music played.
"Wait!" the warrior said. "Aren't you playing the organ?"
"Oh, no," he said. "This is my niece."
A small blond girl sat on the bench behind the organ. She waved with one hand and then returned to the piece.
The wizard smiled, "Isn't she amazing?"

Is there dancing in your world? What kind?

The lights suddenly cut out and there was darkness. There were a handful of screams in the giant space. Then the drums started up and the space stadium erupted with cheers. The bass picked up the beat. Then a spotlight stabbed down illuminating Zaza, wearing a pink-and-blue magical girl costume. She made a dramatic gesture and the stage lights came up, illuminating the rest of the Better Angels who struck a pose while the crowd went wild.

What are the top five things you've learned on your writing journey?
1) Never trust The Hag.
2) Some words are unreliable.
3) The sound is always.
4) Things were probably ambiguous then.
5) It didn't really happen.

After she finished breakfast, the maid went to pick up the tray, but then turned to Cecelia and whispered to her, "I'm so sorry this is happening to you, Milady!"
"Thank you," Cecelia whispered back. "What's your name?"
"My name is Jewel. Is there anything I can do for Milady?"
"I don't think so, Jewel."
"Let me give you a hug, Milady," she said. "I can at least do this much."
Something seemed off to Cecelia and she was going to push Jewel away, but then her guts began to .
