Tell us about yourself and your creative work.

I'm an author of LTBGTQIA+ SFF. I have two books out now, a fluffy military space opera "Better Angels" and a steampunk fantasy adventure with pirates and airships and a trans protagonist, "Revin's Heart". I have a cozy dark fantasy coming out soon called "A Familiar Problem" about a young man, who is supposed to get a familiar, but instead is taken as the familiar by a powerful demon, who starts to train him up: But for what?

<p>They reached the middle of the mill

@stevendbrewer@wandering.shop - Sat, 02/15/2025 - 07:42

They reached the middle of the mill complex by noon. When the barge slipped forward into the next lock, they saw a party of men standing nearby. One was an extremely large and muscular man, dressed well, flanked by four guards. A squirrelly looking man pointed out Kasseh and Cecelia to the expressionless well-dressed man. Cecelia recognized the squirrelly fellow from the factory: he had been one of the other workers. The large man flipped him a coin, then stepped forward to their wagon.

She hobbled to the door. A young man was there.
"Pardon me," he said. "Did you call for some help?"
He handed her the paperwork from the agency.
"Bless me, why yes!" she said, delighted. She put her glasses on and peered at the paperwork. "Mr. Thyme, is it?"
"You can call me Justin." (2/2)

Martha had become practically an in her home. She looked at three days worth of dirty dishes piled up in the sink and dreaded standing at the sink to wash them. She had called a service for help, but no-one had come.
She was just about to start when the doorbell rang. (1/2)

MC POV: Do you believe in romantic love?

After a moment, Words put his mouth close to Revin's ear and whispered, "I love you, Revin. I've always loved you."
"But… But…" Revin stammered.
Words kissed him again. Revin was hesitant, but after a moment began to kiss him back.
"I've always loved you too," Revin said hoarsely, once they had separated. "I told you so when I was drunk. And then I said I didn't remember… but I was lying."

"I want something different for dinner," Booboo said.
"Are you asking me out on a date?" Zsazsa asked, archly.
"That's a great idea!" Booboo said. "What are you in the mood for?"
"How about something… refined," Zsazsa said.
"I know just the place! How about Borb's Burger Buffet?" Booboo said.
"What?"
"Yeah!" Booboo gushed. "They have all kinds of burgers! I'll bet some are 'refined.'"
"What are you willing to bet?"
"Anything!"
"Alright, darling," Zsazsa purred. "It's a bet."

How do you organise your writing projects?

I use folders with text files for my "organizational" writing. That's where I make outlines and rough drafts. And all of the other "meta" writing of publishing (taglines, synopses, cover letters, etc.)

For actual writing, these days, I often write directly in Google Docs. Eventually, that's where my finished manuscripts end up. It makes it easy to share drafts with beta readers to get comments.

I tried Scrivener, but I use Linux.

Do you belong to any writing organizations? Are they helpful?

I belong to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) and serve as Secretary. I also belong to a regional writing group, the Straw Dog Writers Guild. These have both been very helpful to me in terms of networking and learning the business and craft sides of authorship. I've thought about joining the Authors Guild and the Alliance of Independent Authors. And Lambda Literary. I believe in organizing.
